A proposed federal earnings rule could cut Title IV loans for massage programs.
ABMP reports 89% of Title IV students in somatic bodywork programs would fail the proposed earnings test. The earliest a school could lose Direct Loan eligibility is July 2028. Outcomes have to live on the same record as hours and enrollment — not a second spreadsheet.
CAMTC · effective 1 January 2026
California updated school-approval rules. Hours still have to be real.
CAMTC only counts education from approved programs. A school that cannot show clock hours and assessments on one record is already behind, in Arizona or California.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics still projects fast growth for massage therapists.
Employment is projected to grow 15% from 2024 to 2034 — about 24,700 openings a year. Schools that can graduate, license, and report hours are the ones who can meet that demand.

Massage programs grew for the first time since 2006–2008.
ABMP estimates 23,098 graduates from 914 programs in 2024, up from 22,183 graduates and 872 programs in 2022. More schools, still about 25 graduates each — the stack problem does not get smaller.

About three in ten first-time MBLEx candidates still fail.
FSMTB reported a 70.4% first-time pass rate for July 2024–June 2025 (17,160 candidates). A September 2026 school performance report cites 72.03% national for the next year. Readiness belongs next to hours and skill sign-off, not in a separate phone app.
